The Department of Geology implemented a field trip for the undergraduate students

In order to achieve the objectives of the field geology course for undergraduate students (Field Geology GE400), that has been designed to learn the geology students the field geological work skills on the basis of research excellence, the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science, University of Tripoli, organized an integrated field program that included many field trips to the areas of Zliten - Khoms - Azizia - Ras Al-Lufaa - Gharyan - Bir Al-Ghanam - Taghma - Yafran - Al-Rajban - Shakshuk - Janawen - Jado - Kabaw - Nalut - Takot - Wazen and its neighboring areas for a period of 15 days (from 15th to 30th April 2024).

This field trip included (21) students who met the requirements of this course, during which they were trained on how to deal with many geological features related to the stratigraphic sequences in Jabal Nafusa by examining many outcrops in valleys and roadsides, and the relationship of geological formations to each other, as well as their relationship to the igneous bodies in the region, in addition to the geological structures relationships.

The students have been also trained how to collect field data and benefit from it in geological mapping at different scales, identifying rock names and classifications using hand lenses and field relationships, and presenting the results of field work in the form of geological reports. They have been also learned how to use Global Mapper v 8.   In geological mapping, it is one of the applied programs specialized in geographic information systems.
