About Department of Plant Protection

In the early years of the establishment of the College of Agriculture, the specialized sciences related to plant diseases and protection were limited to a few courses taught within the Department of Plant Production, which include: basics of plant pathology, mycology, entomology, and pest control science.

This situation continued until the beginning of the academic year 1972/1973 AD, and due to the increase in the number of students at the Faculty of Agriculture, and the need for existing agricultural projects for certain specializations, five divisions were developed within the Plant Production Department, including the Plant Protection Division. In the year 1978 AD, these divisions were transformed into independent departments, and thus the Plant Protection Department was established to begin its successful career, which culminated with the beginning of the academic year 1976/1977 AD with the inauguration of a postgraduate program to grant a master's degree for the first time at the Faculty of Agriculture.
