The faculty was established by the Prime Minister’s decision No. 166 for the year 2015 AD under the name (Faculty of Sharia and Law for Girls in Tajoura), and its affiliation was with Al-Asmariya University for Islamic Sciences. The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research then issued resolution No. 398 for the year 2016 to transfer the affiliation of the faculty from Al-Asmariya University for Islamic Sciences to the University of Tripoli. The name of the faculty was changed to become Faculty of Sharia Sciences, according to the Minister of Education’s decision No. 1571 for the year 2017 AD.
There are five scientific departments at the faculty, namely: Sharia, Sharia & Law, Religion Fundamentals, Islamic Economics and Arabic.
The duration of the study in the faculty is four academic years, after which the student is granted a specialized degree (bachelor’s degree) in Sharia sciences.
